Autumn is the time of layering; nice crochet project to show off the style, finesse

A crochet top can add spice to any layered outfit.

As the leaves change color and the season moves into fall, an iconic fashion trend is layering. This crochet top is perfect for layering and a fun pop of color this fall. It’s a fun edition that you can rock on any occasion.

The project took me about 4 hours from start to finish, but it can easily be completed faster, especially if you’re not easily distracted like I do. So let’s have fun and crochet.

Hook Level: Intermediate

Stationery:

  • Two bundles of different threads (I used two different roses)
  • 5.0mm hook
  • Crochet marker (if you don’t have one, a bobby pin or safety pin will also work)
  • Scissors
  • Crochet needle

STEP 1: Bralette Cups

  • String 15 of the thread (color one).
  • Put a crochet marker on the 15th chain to mark its location.
  • Chain two and single crochet in the penultimate stitch (or the 14th chain).
  • Crochet the rest of the 14 crochet stitches.
  • RANK 1: Chain two and double crochet in the penultimate stitch (or the 2nd stitch).
  • Double crochet all stitches up to the hook marker.
  • Take out the hook marker and put three single crochet at the top on the 15th stitch (where the marker was) and put the marker on the second (or middle) stitch.
  • Continue on the other side of the thread with 14 treble crochets to complete the first row.
  • RANK 2: Chain two and repeat double crochet to the marker.
  • Place three double crochet at the marker location and continue to double crochet on the other side.
  • RANK 3-5 Repeat for three more rows.
  • This should leave you five rows in total, creating the cup of the bralette.
  • Cut the thread with about 4 inches of excess and sew at the end with your crochet needle.
  • Repeat to create the second bra cup!

STEP 2: Torso and waist

  • RANK 1: Chain 10.
  • After chain 10, crochet the yarn in the lower corner of a bralette.
  • Crochet 24 stitches in total along the bottom of the bralette cup.
  • Chain five.
  • Crochet the yarn in the bottom corner of the other bralette cap.
  • Crochet 24 stitches in total along the bottom of the bralette cup.
  • Chain 10.
  • RANK 2: Chain four and place a double crochet in the third stitch (i.e. skip two from the end of chain 10).
  • Chain two and put on a double crochet after skipping two stitches.
  • The pattern should go: double crochet, chain two, skip two stitches and repeat.
  • ROW 3-6: Repeat until you have six rows (or more if you want more coverage).
  • Cut the thread with about 4 inches to the left and sew at the end with your crochet needle.

STEP 3: Straps and details

  • Run the yarn (color two) starting at the corner of the cup of the bralette and the waist.
  • After 12 stitches you should be in the middle of the bralette cup. Carefully, sew the thread in the middle of the hat and go down. This creates an outline and a pop or color.
  • Continue the slip sts along the first row from the waist and repeat on the second cup of the bra.
  • Cut with scissors and use your crochet needle to sew in the end.
  • Slip stitch of color two along the outside of one of the bralette cups, starting at the cup and waist corner and ending at the top of the cup.
  • From this point chain 75 to create the neck strap.
  • Repeat the slip stitch with color two along the other side of the beanie, joining the colors at the stitch / top of the bralette beanie.
  • Repeat for the other bralette cup.

STEP 4: Corset laced in the back

  • Chain 150 (or more depending on comfort).
  • Cut the thread and use a crochet needle to sew the ends.
  • Take your bralette shirt and turn it over to the back. Use the thread that you have just chained to thread it in the upper corner of one side of the shirt (row 1 of the torso and the waist). Use the other side to do the same.
  • Take each end and cross the thread to create an X, then thread the thread from the bottom of the sides and tie together (row 6 of the torso and the waist).

STEP 5: Style!

  • I like to wear clothes like this with long sleeves under the shirt or fun big jackets. Have fun and be creative with how you want to wear your shirt, after all, you did. Why not show it?
