Old Navy Cropped Long Sleeve Crochet Sweater I Editor’s Review

I browse Old Navy’s new releases section with the enthusiasm of a kid in a candy store. After all, you never know what new stuff will drop month to month. As classic and timeless as the brand is, it occasionally releases products inspired by current trends, like the Long-Sleeve Cropped Crochet Sweater ($40). Everybody embrace crochet right now, whether in the form of clothing or summer accessories. (Anyway, you can’t go wrong.) Needless to say, I couldn’t resist picking up this sweater. I added this to my cart in my usual medium size and opted for the Cloudy White color over the orange style – but hey, that one is cute too.

What I like about this sweater

One thing that worried me when I pressed “add to cart” was whether or not this sweater was going to feel shoddy, like the cotton crochet would fall apart after a few wears. But I was then relieved to find it really thick and durable.

I also like the style. It features long drop shoulder sleeves and elastic rib knit cuffs which I think are extra details that make it look expensive. And its short cut is perfect for tucking the front into shorts this summer.

What occasion is this sweater suitable for?

One of the biggest things that drew me to this sweater is how versatile it is. On days when it’s not too hot this summer, I look forward to wearing it over a fitted crop top or a neutral colored sports bra paired with denim shorts or jeans. Dressed up with the right accessories, I think it could even be a great going out top, whether it’s for a drink with friends or a date night.

But I’m very excited to wear it as a beach cover-up because I think it fits that laid-back aesthetic. Plus, its openwork style gives me the opportunity to show off my new favorite bikini.

What to note about this sweater

As of this writing, this sweater has mostly five-star reviews, aside from one buyer who deemed the sleeves too long. Maybe it’s the fact that I’m 5’9, but I found them to fit perfectly. One thing to note is that the sleeves are slightly oversized in width; I would say it’s to make sure it looks relaxed and doesn’t fit tightly against your arms.

Another thing: I know I said earlier that this sweater is really durable, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be careful how you wash it. According to the brand’s instructions, you should machine wash it cold on a gentle cycle and dry it flat.

Would I recommend this sweater?

I highly recommend this sweater! I know I’ll be reaching for it again and again this summer, whether it’s for a casual day at the WFH or a trip to the pool. Even my fiancé did a double take when I came out in it. It’s certainly unusual – and bang on trend.
